Historic Kopu Bridge
Join our volunteers!
Skilled or unskilled, your help is always needed :-)
We welcome all offers of help with many types of skills including electrical, woodworking, engineering, writing, painting, research, fundraising and funding application writing, PR, events, tour guiding, accounting, legal etc.
We have a team of volunteers who have learnt how to open and close the bridge, additional bridge pilots are welcomed. Our youngest pilot was 17 years of age when trained and our oldest (and trainer) is Ian Thomas, who is in his 80s. Ian was a bridge pilot at the Kopu Bridge in the 1950s. The first female bridge pilot was trained by Ian, Historic Kopu Bridge Society member (and photographer extraordinaire!), Sereena Burton from Thames.
We are also seeking additional Trustees for the Kopu Bridge and Community Trust
Please use our online volunteer form to express interest in joining our team of volunteers. Our volunteer coordinator, Russell Skeet, will then be in touch with you.
Thank you for your help!
